How far a head do I have to buy my inter rail (europe 5 in 10 days) pass?

In Austria you can buy it the day you start your trip - I suppose it's the same in other countries too.

when using the online shop (and supporting the project at the same time :) ) I recommend to order one week in advance - even there is an one-day/48h-express delivery available... :)
