Going away for a month mid-July. Plan was to fly into Warsaw/Krakow and Fly out of Amsterdam.

Route I looked at was:

Warsaw --> Krakow --> Budapest --> Belgrade --> Sarajevo --> Dubrovnik --> Split --> Ljubljana (bled) --> Vienna --> Munich --> Prague --> Berlin --> Amsterdam

Plan is to fly into Warsaw a few days before then inter-rail ticket starts so not to lose any time there, then arrive in Amsterdam on the last day of the inter-rail ticket. So in that sense it is only 11 stops. The problem is due to the travel around Belgrade and Sarajevo it seems that there are 10 hour train journeys in every direction which looses a lot of time. At the same time though, 11 stops means 2/3 days in each place which seems alright.

All advice is helpful, thanks.

Take the bus! There are frequent busses Belgrade - Sarajevo and are much quicker and more reliable than the train. Make sure you stop off in Mostar (the train Sarajevo Mostar runs twice a day and is beautiful) and from there its another shortish bus to dubrovnik. Other than that is looks like a nice route. Just dont be stunned when you arrive into belgrade 6 hours late...

We got a bus from Belgrade to Sarajevo, stayed at hostel city center (which was pretty good), then took the train to Mostar, stayed at the Majdas rooms (now called Hostel Majdas), which is awesome, and the took a bus into Montenegro. We booked a couple of days in advance. Bosnia is such an amazing country there is never a shortage of things to do
