By taking a tent with you you have the possibility of saving money, but you have to be careful if it's really worth it.
Since you arent travelling in peak season, campsite should be relatively cheap - there should be at least a price difference of 10€ between staying at a campsite and staying at a hostel.
However, one must not forget that you probably have to use public transport to get to the campsite whereas most hostels are somewhat in the centre.
Maybe you can try to find out about campsites in the towns you want to visit and calculate the price difference to hostels in the same towns.
Besides the money it's also a question of comfort - at the end of the month you will start hating carrying the tent with you...I know. ;)
I did a four weeks trip (Benelux, Paris, London, Glasgow, Benelux again, Berlin) and slept in the tent maybe 16 days - the rest of the time i stayed in night trains, parks, ferry terminals...I could save lots of money by avoiding the hostels. 8)

In southern countries you can sleep in campsites without a tent, by starlight. But that's true that on one hand a tent is practical since one can put one's bags in it during the daytime and in northern countries it is necessary to camp because of the weather...

Don't know which tent you bought... however some tents meant for tougher conditions can be set up without the inside tent, the fancy stuff keeping the bugs out. Saves at least some weight, however you will need in this case a better sleeping bag since this will be slightly colder. Never had issues with this in the summer ( France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany ). However never saw how well it held under rain....
Never had issues at campsites with animals going for my food in the middle night, just hang it into a tree and you should be fine.

No tent... seriously. Unless you've actually PLANNED to camp - you wont use it and that's for sure. Bring a bivvy bag for emergencies - not a tent. 6lbs V say, 10oz? Hands down, bivvy bag wins.
