Hi Guys,
Me and a friend are looking to use the Inter-rail for the first time this summer. We generally couldn't decide where in Europe to go for a little holiday so we though this was the best option.
Due to the amount of holiday we both have left to take off of work we are looking to get the 10 days travel in 22 days option (but we might only actually use about 16-18 days-ish of it)
We are living in England and would like to go to the following places if it can possibly be worked into our route:
Paris
Rome
Amsterdam
Munich
Vienna
Madrid
I don't know if this is possible or if a similar set of countries would work but any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am a total newbie at this :)
Thanks

It's definitely possible, but I would do it a circle:
Besides the direct and expensive Elipsos night train there are two other connections Paris - Madrid:
Paris 2310 - Madrid 1357 (change in Irun)
Paris 0955 - Madrid 2208 (change in Irun)
Madrid - Rome: There is a nice, fast connection including an expensive night train:
Madrid 1600 - Rome 1429 (change in Barcelona and Milano)
Another possibility would be to split the route in two pieces and make a stop in Nice:
Madrid 0800 - Nice 2325 (change in Barcelona, Cerbere, Montpellier, Marseille)
Nice 1002 - Rome 1929 (change in Milano)
There is a direct night train from Rome to Vienna:
Rome 1910 - Vienna 0842
From Vienna to Munich there are trains every two hours which take about four hours.
From Munich to Amsterdam there are numerous connections, like an ICE service six times a day that takes 7h30.
There is a night train as well:
Munich 2244 - Amsterdam 0859
Note that you might have to pay supplements on many trains; especially in France, Spain, Italy and on night trains. You can find informations on these supplements on the boards of the relevant country.
Also note that the suggested connections are the fastest which means that they are most likely to include trains with supplements. There are other connections without supplements but they are often much slower.
To some of the night trains the 1900 rule applies: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
Find TRAIN SCHEDULES for the whole EUROPE: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Hope this may help you a little.

Thanks so much for your reply - It's extremely helpful!
Just on another note, the countries listed are not necessarily the order in which I would like to visit them :)
Do you think the route you suggested is the most efficient / most interesting route?
Any recomendations again, are very much appreciated. Are there any countries that you think we should substitute for other destinations etc?
Very much open to suggestions :)
Thanks again.

Also,
What would be the best way to work Zurich into the route?
Madrid > Zurich > Rome > Vienna?
OR
Madrid > Rome > Zurich > Vienna?
Thanks again!

It might be the better way to do Zurich before Rome, as you then could make each journey with direct night trains.
I guess you would have to pay almost the same money on both routes (maybe the first one is a little cheaper); but it probably could save you some time doing the first one.

To not confuse you: There is no direct train Madrid - Zurich, you would have to go to Barcelona and change there to the Elipsos Pau Casals service. ;)
