As it accepts maestro for payment, i was wondering whether the [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] was a reliable way of booking rooms ie when you book are you guaranteed the room. has anyone had any problems with this service before? thanks!

as I use it myself as well... it is the system is based on the one of [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] ... exactly the same, same fares and so on ...! :)
the only difference is when booking via the railcc one mentioned above, you support the railcc project by some coins of commission we get... :)

what do you mean? You dont need to contact them, but youll get an email from the hostel most probably.By paying a deposit you are confirming your reservation?

when booking your hostel online, you get an email with the contact details of the hostel.
as well you have to pay a booking fee as safety for the hostel which will keep the room for you. this booking fee of 5% is not-refundable as you have to understand as well the hostels: if they keep the room for you and you don't arrive, they will loose money.
but you can cancel your reservation by the contact details in the mail you will receive mostly up to 24hours before you arrive.
so the system is save and you will have your room - I never heard about or had problems with this system. otherwise it won't be linked on this website - as railcc is not a company, it is a project to help. :)
