If you are buying your interrail ticket and what to use it to get a discount on say a ferry and want to book it before you leave, do you physically need the ticket or are you given a number for your ticket before it is sent to you?

thanks

I guess you need the ticket number, which is on the ticket. Which boat are you trying to book? Most dont take advance interrail bookings

Well we are planning to hopefully use our interrail tickets for a number of discounts, how would we go about getting a discount on an elipsos night train? using the ticket number? any also if we want to book surcharged trains would we be able to book those?

I dont think so. For most of them its best just to turn up to the station and book them there, there is no need to book weeks in advance. The whole point of the ticket is that you can stay flexible.

If you want to go on an overnight France - Italy train on a Friday evening it might be worth booking ahead. You would probably need to contact the french railway company SNCF to do this though, unless you can get to a main european station, or pay for a specialist company to do it for you
