Hello.
My friend and I are planning on going on a 30 day trip through most of western and central europe,
sleeping in hostels and on night trains. We also plan on doing some sightseeing and we'd like to eat proper food (No McDonalds).
Here's my problem: My friend can't afford to spend more than 14 000 SEk (About 1280 EUR).
Will this be enough to get by? I lured him into this form of travelling by saying it was quite cheap compared to the alternatives
and he's really keen to go.
I've travelled by InterRail once before, in 2006, and if I remember correctly I didn't spend more than 10 000 SEk (920 EUR), but I lived for free in Paris for a couple of days.
Any thoughts?
Thankful for any replies.

What about staying at campsites a couple of nights? I know the tent is bulky and there might not be the same party feeling as in hostel but you can save lots of money.
On my first month's trip I spent ~1000€, including, ticket, reservations/supplements etc. We tried to live as cheap as possible, went only to places with no or very low admission, cooked often at the campsite etc.
You can search (and book) hostels before you leave, so you know how much them will cost you. Same applies to reservations/supplements. If you plan your trip carefully, you are able to save some money by avoiding the expensive trains.
