First time interrailing and a have know idea what cities/areas in eastern european countries are worth going to? I have spent a lot of time in France so just want to get across as quickly as possible to Turin. But, I am not sure whether going down to Siena is worth it? (have heard its really nice) as I am a bit more interested in cheaper eastern Europe to Italy. Also I find myself heading to the capitals of eastern countries simply because I do not know about this area, anywhere else I should go in these countries? Is Slovakia worth a look? I would be grateful for any advice.

Here is my first basic route (one month in August)

-Roscoff/France (ferry from plymouth)
-Turin/Italy
-Siena/Italy
-Bologna/Italy
-Split/Croatia (want to spend a bit of time here)
-Zagreb/Croatia
-Budapest/Hungary
-Krakow/Poland
-Prague/Czech Rep. (flight home/go to berlin then fly)

ive never camped in eastern europe since hostels are quite cheap anyway.

a couple of things i can say, go to slovenia! ljubljana is awesome, bled and bohinj are beautiful and its on the way between italy and croatia. Zagreb is pretty cool, try to get to the croatian coast and islands as well. Budapest is another cool city. If you have time, see if you can head down to Bosnia and Montenegro, both cheap and amazing, especially sarajevo and mostar. Also you cant beat Bulgaria for cheapness, and Veliko Tarnovo is a really cool student city. Once your in bulgaria though your only a stones throw from Istanbul, one of the greatest cities in the world... you might never make it back!

In Slovakia ive only been to Bratislava, which people slag off cos theres not much to do, but its good for a day trip from vienna, and there is a lot more mountanous type stuff outside the capital.

Most importantly in eastern europe, relax, expect trains to be hours late or not run at all for no reason and have fun!
