Hi,

I am hoping to buy a Interrail ticket to travel around Italy this summer. Whilst looking to book my seat reservations for overnight sleeper trains, I have a few queries;

1) Would it be possible for me and my friend to book 2 places in a 4 or 6 person couchette in order to benefit from the cheaper prices or are these prices only applicable if you intend to book the whole couchette?

2) Also, is it possible for me and my friend to book 2 places in a 3 bed cabin, leaving the other bed spare for another traveller, or would we also have to pay for the other bed?

3) What trains are seat reservations actually compulsory on when using an interrail pass? If we are not concerned with reserving a seat, would it be possible to use the train with just our interrail pass, if it is not fully booked on arrival? Also, is this the case for the Eurostar Italia?

Many Thanks

1 and 2 - you can book part of a compartment

if the timetable says reservation compulsory (like for all eurostar italia trains) you will have to pay a suppliment. i think all normail daytime ic/icplus trains are suppliment free

Hi!

You can find a list of trains which require a supplement here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it

Flo thank you very much for your help.
But I don't get it, in this case even if I reserve the seat it doesn't mean i'll get one:

2nd class: EUR 3
1st class: EUR 3

You do not need a reservation for seats. Seats are FREE. But if no more seat are left, you will have to stand the whole trip.

Hi!

On these trains (IC, E) you dont need a reservation when travelling with InterRail - but all other regular tickets you purchase come together with a reservation (standard Trenitalia tickets). As reserved seats are not labelled, it might happen to you that you will be asked to give up your seat to someone travelling with a reservation. ;)
So if you're travelling longer distances on such trains I'd recommend to get a reservation anyway.

Hope all's clear now. :)
