I'm doing an Inter Rail trip this Summer and I'm a bit worried about reservations.

I'm going in August and I'm going to the major european cities, how far along do I need to book a room?
I thought Inter Railers would go with the flow, decide their trip on the go, but how can you do that if you need reservations to make sure you get a room?

The same question about night trains. How do people do reservations in advance if they're deciding their trip on the go? And how do they get their tickets? Can we get them on the train station? I know they can be mailed to you but how does that work if you're always changing cities?

Should I just plan my whole trip in advance and make reservations for everything? I'm kinda worried just because I'm going alone so it would be bad if I couldn't get a place to sleep.

everywhere youll be able to find somewhere to sleep if you turn up on the day, but in places like paris and amsterdam good hostels get booked up quick.

What i tend to do is when i arrive in a new place, decide where i want to go next. ill go to the train station to get any suppliment/reservation that i need, and check out the internet to reserve a hostel. i think thi is the best trade off between flexibility and not getting screwed over by everywhere being full

I do it the same way like SiDUDe ... you are not too much fixed on dates, still free - but also have a relaxed travel and won't run around to find a bed to sleep when you arrive in the next city. :)
