Hi, i'm going inter-railing across europe this summer... and i know there are already a couple of topics on this already.. i just wanted to know why you prefer lonely planet or rough guide??

i had a flick through them today and found lonely planet a bit difficult to read because it was all in black and white.. but was worried if lonely planet contains information that the rough guide doesn't.. as everyone seems to prefer lonely guide!! what's the difference?!

xx

I actually prefer the Lonely Planet layout, and they tend to include some more budget friendly recommendations. Bradt guides are also very good for getting off the beaten track a little.

a travel guide is always nice to have with you - to get a first overview about the new city/location you arrive, or to plan a little bit.
but always keep in mind: if there is something written in a travel book, you surely will meet there a lot of other travelers using the same travel guide.
so use it for the first step - and for the really good places, ask the staff in hostels (good bars, parties, music, ...), talk to other travelers and use a little bit the internet... that's my personal experience.
and at the moment, I also prefer LP - but both are okay ! :)
