Hi,

Right so me and three others want to get from Barcelona to Venice in July, I originally thought we would just take the night train to Milan and then go to Venice but it seems that's a bit too expensive...so I want to find another route, but apparently the timetables for France aren't available yet. Does anyone know when they will be available? And does anyone know a really good route where maybe we could stop off somewhere, even if it was just for a day break?

hi Beth ...
the schedules will be available at the beginning of May... maybe early ... you never know... ;)
a good and cheap route is by regional trains (yes you can do all this by free regional trains) from Barcelona via Cerbere (Spanish/French border), Perpignan, Montpellier, Marseille (along the coast) in direction of Nice. cross the French/Italian border at Ventimiglia.
continue via Genova, Milano to Venice.
in Italy pay attention to their supplements if you won't use regional trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
Peter :)

Thank you very much :)
Do you think that the route along the South coast is the best? I imagine that the sites are incredible? How long does that route take? Would it be a good idea to stop somewhere along the way? Sorry about all the questions...

I've been looking around the forum ... Is there any way we could put the 'Little Yellow Train' journey into our travel? Or would that be too difficult?

it is easy to do ...
from Barcelona Sants go up to in the Pyrenees via Puigcerda - you might use the bus this year again as it was so last year: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
cross the border to La Tour de Carol - use the yellow train down in direction to Perpignan - that's it ... now continue your way along the coast in direction of Italy.
it is worth doing this trip trough the Pyrenees !! :)

That was what I thought, as taking the regional trains from Barcelona to Venice takes around 30 hours...I thought the trip along the Pyranees might make it worth the lack of sleep... Thank you very much :P
