Hello all
and congratulations for the very helpful forum and website.
i have some questions concerning reservations:
1. In international trains, do i always have to make a reservation when i have an interail ticket? That means there are 2 options:
a.when i travel within one country (on an international train-eg. an IC(E) in Germany)
b. When i travel through different countries (eg. Beograd to Munich)
2. Is it possible to make reservations inside train and if yes, would i have to pay a big amount of money?
For the record: I am interested to travelling: Thessaloniki-Beograd-Munich-Frankfurt-Amsterdam (3 changes) and want to know in which of these trains do i need a reservation or under what circumstances i need/dont need a reservation.
Thanks a lot for any help

hi ... :)
here are your answers:
1) you only need a reservation when it is listed here ( A:national and B:international): https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation - select either the departure or the arrival country.
2) yes it is possible only on some trains. but on the normal high-speed-trains it is not possible: for example the TGV in France: you can't get a seat without a reservation as all seats are numbered. the same for night trains - what happens if there is no more bed free and you are inside the train. that's the problem.
if you are in a hurry, ask the staff before jumping in a train with supplements - as otherwise you sometimes have to pay a penalty. ||
your route...
Thessaloniki to Beograd by night train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/thessaloniki-to-belgrade
Beograd to Vienna: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/belgrade-to-vienna
Vienna to Amsterdam by night train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/vienna-to-amsterdam
if you want to use an IC/EC or ICE from Austria to Germany, they are free of use - no supplements.
for Frankfurt to Amsterdam : the ICE is also without any supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/ice-deutsche-bahn/11

Thanks a lot for this helpful information.
I am puzzled though because the Dutch railways do not mention that interrail covers the ICE supplement.

the official information for persons travelling with an InterRail Pass on the international ICE Germany to Amsterdam is:
reservation possible but not compulsory - so you can buy a reservation, but you don't need it.
if you buy a reservation, it will be EUR 4 in 2nd class. :)
