Hi

Me and a friend are in the process of finalising our interrail route, and we would really appreciate it if someone would check that it is possible and give advice on train times, and if we need to pay extra at all.

The plan is:

- Arrive in Paris, stay for 4 nights.
Take the train from Paris to Amsterdam and arrive on the same day.

-Stay in Amsterdam for 3 nights, leave for Berlin.

-Berlin 3 nights, then to Prague

- Prague 2 nights, then to Salzberg or Vienna (advice on which would be appreciated!)

- Salzberg or vienna 3 nights, then Munich

- Munich 2 nights, then venice.

- Venice 4 nights, then Milan

- Milan 3 nights, then Florence.

- Florence 3 nights, then Rome.

- Rome 4 nights, then home.

Thank you to any one who helps! :)

hi ...

here the information you need.
first, for exact train schedules have a look at this link. the schedules are available up to 3 months in advance from the date of today. but fill in the date of tomorrow and test it - it won't change a lot in summer: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

1) Paris - Amsterdam:
you can use the THALYS train (otherwise you will travel hours - but do it if you want to save the supplement - use the link above to find a connection). if you use the Thalys, travel from Paris to Bruessels, leave the train there and change to an IC without any supplements. THALYS: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/thalys/41

2) Amsterdam to Berlin
either by cheap: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/germany/de
or by free, direct day train IC within 6 hours

3) Berlin to Prague
by day train EC within 5 hours - free

4) Prague to Vienna
Salzburg and Vienna are nice - but if you want to stay for some more nights, go to Vienna.
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

5) Vienna to Munich
day train within 4 hours - free IC or ICE train

6) Munich to Venice
Don't stay to long in Venice - it is expensive and full of tourists. Maybe better to go to Slovenia or Coratia with the cities Ljubljana, Zagreb, Split and the Croatian coast...
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

7) travel inside Italy:
- pay attention to their supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
you will always find a connection without these. use the schedules link I mentioned above.
for night trains which you might use, have a look here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/italy/it

8) Rome to you home - as I do not know where your home is, I can't help you. ;)

9) and if you want to support this forum and the railcc project, buy your official ticket at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] ... thank you :)

you see... always have a look around the website or the forum - everything you need is here ... :)
have fun, Peter :)

Thank you very much :P

After some thought, we have outlined a different journey, since the previous one seemed a bit pricey:

(1) Paris - Amsterdam

(2)Amsterdam-Berlin

(3)Berlin-Prague

(4)Prague-Vienna

I'm a bit confused about the supplements, since this site (xxxxx) doesn't mention any reservations for this connection, but you said we need to pay 7 euros. I'm a bit worried about this, incase we think that we don't need to pay when we actually do - what would happen if we didn't?

(5) Vienna-Budapest

Again, we're not sure about supplements for this connection. The site above says we use OBB, EC, EC.

(6)Budapest-Venice, using EN

(7)Venice - Milan, using (CIS).

Is the route ok? and have a missed out any extra charges?

Also, how do we pay the supplements?

Thank you very much again :)

hi ...

1-3) the same like before...

4) you can believe me. sit in this train and you will see that you have to pay the EUR 7. :) I am on the rail tracks around Europe every month and I have friends at every rail company - so I am in 95% of the cases up to date. and in this case I am even 110% up to date! I just phoned and checked it again for you this morning. ;)
and please no link to this website as I am not their support ...! by the way... if you want to support the free community of travellers for travellers railcc, buy the ticket via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] :) the place where you get all these information and help from....

5) Vienna to Budapest
do not use a connection for which you have to use an https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/hungary/hu - IC at the Hungarian part of your route. as for Hungarian ICs you have to pay a supplement of EUR 2,50.
if you use the direct trains from Vienna to Budapest called EC or RAILJET, you travel for free !!

6) Budapest to Venice: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-venice-night-train/f1387

7) Venice to Milan: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it

the route is good ... maybe have a stop in Croatia or Slovenia ... Ljubljana is nice ...! :)
you can buy supplements either via https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de or the best way is directly at a station during your tour !!
all the best, Peter :)
