Hello, we're planning on Interrailing this summer, but we've come across a difficulty in our planning.
We are heading from Istanbul to Greece and then through to Italy.
We're thinking of taking the easy train from Istanbul to Thessaloniki, but from here we are struggling to find out how to get to one of the main ferry ports to get to Italy.
Does anybody know how to get to either Igoumenitsa or Patras?? (From Thessaloniki or Athens)
Any help would be much appreciated, Josh Kelly x

hi ... :)
just go down from Thessaloniki to Athens. if you have the possibility, avoid the IC/ICE trains with their supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/athens-to-patras
from Athens you can travel to Patras: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/athens-to-patras
some extra information about the route Istanbul to Thessaloniki/Athens: https://rail.cc/en/istanbul-athens-train/f2369
and the ferry Greece - Italy: https://rail.cc/en/ferry-greece-italy-patras-bari-ancona-venice/f1348

Peter was right about the train part.
The other option, which is more expensive but faster and direct, is by bus.
The bus from Thessaloniki to Patras costs around 35 euros and it takes 8 hours to reach Patras , 4 busses per day (early in the morning , midday and night bus i am not sure about the exact timetable)
There is a bus from Thessaloniki straight to Igoumenitsa but i don;t know timetable and cost or duration (i think there is only one bus per day and i think it will be cheaper than the Patras bus and last less hours.
