This might be a really stupid question; but how much cash do you guys usually carry with you? I do not have a debit or credit card for the account where the money is saved, so would it be possible to carry all the travel money with me during the trip (22 days) or is that a really stupid idea?
Otherwise I was thinking of transferring them to an account where I've got a visa card, but my bank charges me 3 euros for every withdrawal, so to save money I would withdraw as large sums as possible every time I need cash.

it's about 50-60euro/day(all incl.)

it may be cheaper in east and east-south europe.

Thanks, but I'm asking about how much money (cash) I dare carry on me during the trip. I've got my set budget, just need to know if it's safe to carry it all on me in cash, or if I should use my visa card that charges me 3 euros every time I withdraw money.

If you can get a card that doesnt charge for overseas withdrawals (like the nationwide debit card in the UK) then that would be the ideal solution. Otherwise maybe look into travellers cheques. I normally dont recommend them, but I think theyre preferable to carrying around all that cash. Id never go out with more than €100/150 on me

Just to let you know, I always carry the whole money for the trip with me in cash - never had any worries or problems (stayed at campsites, hostels, ferry terminals, parks, trains etc). :P

Travellers cheques are sort of like cheques you write out to yourself - but they are insured in case you loose them or they get stolen. Tbh they are a bit of a faff as they have to be cashed at bank - and only certain banks will cash them, in some countries there are very few places that will.

Also, I certainly wouldnt recommend taking all the cash with you. I wouldnt carry that amount of cash (that is completly uninsured, most travel insurance products cover a very small cash amount) around europe - I wouldnt carry here where I live! Its pretty risky, and theres really not much point when most people have the ability to open up a bank account that doesnt charge for withdrawing abroad.

I can completely understand your worries about traveling with a larger amount of cash. However, I prefer it to credit cards, traveller cheques etc (Personally with cash I have a better overview over my expenses).

Since 15 June 2007 new legislation on the controls of cash entering or leaving the EU apply in all Member States. Any person entering or leaving the EU will have to declare the cash that they are carrying if this amounts to 10,000 euros or more; this includes cheques, travellers' cheques, money orders, etc. This will not apply to anyone travelling via the EU to a non-EU country, as long as the original journey started outside of the EU nor to those travelling within the EU.
