Hi!
Me and my boyfriend are off on our first interrail trip this summer and we just can't get realistic about where to go, and what to do.
I want to be close to the water (sea, rivers, lakes etc) and visit small towns and villages, and would love to go to Croatia. An absolute must is Berlin and Paris. Switzerland is high on my list of places to go too. I would love to see the mountains etc.
My boyfriend is more of a tourist, and wants to see the big cities like Berlin, Paris (at least we agree on those two cities haha), Rome, Athens, Amsterdam etc, but also want to go surfing if possible.
We had made a plan so that both of us would be happy, but then realised that if we did stick to it we would never get off the train!

So does anyone have a suggestion for what to do so that we both get happy? We are planning to get at least a day or two on each location.
Oh, and if anyone got suggestions for countries/places that's good for camping please tell :) We're trying to save as much money as possible.

We will most likely buy a 22 day ticket, as a month travel might be too expensive for us.

/Amanda

I think we've managed to agree on a route now :)

Amsterdam - Hannover - Berlin - Nurnberg - Switzerland - Rome - and then up the french coast to finally end up in Paris.

mmmh... instead of Hannover I would stay a day in Cologne or Hamburg ... it is also on your way to Berlin, not far away from the route via Hannover.
the Croatian coast would have be good for you, as it is cheaper than the French coast... but between Montpellier and Perpignan the rail track is close to the sea and you can just jump in and out of the regional trains. as well you will find a lot of camp sites - use them in the second row and you will save a lot of money. in Berlin I recommend the corner of Friedrichshain with a lot of student bars and places to party...! :)

If you want to go surfing, why not go to Biarritz at the french Atlantic coast? It's supposed to be Europe's capital of surfing. Though it maybe more expenisve as elsewhere, I don't really know.
However, you could go there from rome within a day. Alternatively you could make a stop on the way there for instance in beautiful Carcassonne, also reachable within a day from Rome (Note that you would arrive there late in the evening, so it might be tricky pitching the tent).
