Hello everyone!

Me and a couple of friends (17 - 18 yrs old) are interrailing this summer for the first time between August and September. Like we don't have much time and its our first (We are counting on some more on the following years) its going to be nearby, around Western Europe.

Our route is the following, on a 22 continuous InterRail pass: Lisbon - Paris - Brussels - Amsterdam - Munich - Vienna - Venice (just passing by, no nights there) - Florence - Rome - Barcelona - Lisbon .

Is it possible to do? As we consulted some train schedules, we think so, but we don't have many experience. Consider that we are gonna catch some night trains always as possible, we know most of Paris, and we are thinking of catching a direct plane to Paris to save some time.

Which of this cities should we spend more / less time, and is there any city near by that any of you would counsel us to go instead of one that I said?

For those who are experienced in interrailing, how much money will we spend per day? (We'll stay in hostels and/or camping, and we'll probably make our own food most of the time.)

Thank you for your time.

Filipe

just some personal preferences... skip Munich, go from Amsterdam to Berlin by night train. from there via Poland (Krakow) to Vienna. Budapest is nice, but also Ljubljana, and the Croatian coast... cheaper than Italy...
you can calculate like this per day:
hostel in a dorm: EUR 10-15
food with beer: EUR 10
night trains, supplements: in average EUR 5.
if you really save money and don't spent a lot it can be EUR 25 per day. but realistic, it is more ... something like 35...

Yeah, I heard good from Krakow... So instead of going to Munich, going to Krakow via Berlin. Well, I would enjoy a lot going to Croatia, and those eastern countries, but one of my main points of interest is Rome, and aswell those countries are quite far from Portugal. If we had more time, I would buy a 1 month pass and would see all that, but perhaps the next year I will follow your advices and interrail through the Eastern Countries.

As for the money, yeah, lol, its probably more of what we think, thats why I asked an opinion, so thanks a lot. (though I'm not really of a beer fan :P )

Thanks a lot, and any doubt I will have, or a route change, I will come here and ask for your opinion.
Any more advice that any want to give, it will be appreciated.

Again, thanks a lot Peter.

=) Well, our change has been slightly changed (because we're probably heading directly to Paris by plane, or return from Rome the same way, depends on whats cheaper), and we're going to see more of the Eastern Countries (Zagreb, Split, Ljubljana, Prag, Budapest... still deciding), but I have some questions.

First of all, in what I've seen, if I start in Lisbon and end in Rome, I saw a train that leaves Lisbon 22:38 I guess, and reaches Madrid the next morning, but it only changes of Portuguese to Spanish land after 00:00. It is a direct train, but the InterRail pass is not valid in the Portuguese country..., if I take that train, lets say leave Lisbon 22:38 of day 1Aug, and arrive Madrid on day 2, would it only count the day 2 as an InterRail day right? Because I only enter Spain in day 2 (3:00 AM), even if its a direct train from Portugal to Spain...

Say if I'm not clear in my doubt lol.

Then, as for Barcelona to anywhere. How can I get from Florence to Barcelona without using the Milan - Barcelona night train? I have to use some regional trains, and stopping in Monaco or Nice or Avignon or Montpellier... ? Isnt there a more direct way?

As for Barcelona to Paris, without using the hotel train, I searched on the planner without HST and Supplements, and I came with a direct night train (20:20 - 9:20). Is it really free? If not, whats the most direct way? If I want to visit Madrid for a day, what is the supplement to pay in a Madrid (afternoon) - Hendaye (night train) - Paris connection?

Thanks a lot in advance. =)

Filipe.

from BCN to Paris there is not any cheap direct connection. only tren-hotel elipsos. so the best way is train to cerbere(france)(without suplement) and then direct night train to Paris(Corail lunea)(suplement!!). this connection is quite good because take only ~3 hours more than elipsos and is 'slightly' cheaper.
