FINLAND via ESTONIA, LATVIA, LITHUANIA to POLAND
I you want to visit the Baltic Countries, you can not do it by InterRail. But it is really cheap to do this kind of exotic journey.
In total you will pay from HELSINKI (Finland) via TALLINN (Estonia), VILNIUS (Lithuania) to WARSAW (Poland) EUR 50,-
:!: Off course you have to pay something extra if you want to stay in hostels or do some extra journeys to the sea.
For example from VILNIUS (Lithuania) to KLAIPEDA (Lithuania) directly at the sea with magic white beaches you have to pay EUR 14,- one-way by train.
The hostels ( [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] ) are extremely cheap (good ones for about EUR 10,-), the food and night life as well.
:arr: HELSINKI to TALLINN by ferry: it is a journey of 2 hours. And if you avoid peak times like weekends, the ferry will be EUR 20,-. At peak times it can be up to EUR 35,-. So pay attention and ask at the office for the low fare tickets. More details: Tallink Silja Line | [ux]https://rail.shop/tallinksilja[/ux]
:arr: TALLINN via RIGA to VILNIUS by bus: it is a journey of 9 hours for EUR 20,- to 30,-
More details: Eurolines Estonia | [ux]https://rail.shop/eurolines[/ux]
:arr: VILNIUS to WARSAW by train: take the day train (there is also a nigh bus available). You have to change at the Lithuanian-Polish border at Sestokai. For the Lithuanian part ( [ux]https://rail.shop/lit[/ux] ) of this journey you have to pay EUR 7,-. The Polish part is free as you can use your InterRail ticket.
From Warsaw you have direct access by train to the whole Eastern Europe as well to Berlin (Germany) and even Switzerland.

Hi Peter
Is it feasible to do this trip in the reverse order (in 2015), by starting in Berlin and then via Warsaw and the Baltic countries to Talinn? Are there train connections all the way or will there still be bus segments?
It sounds much more pleasant than by plane. :D
Cheers

Hi Richard. :)
Yes, it is feasible in reverse... the current problem is, that there is no train connection from Warsaw to Lithuania. You will have to take the bus. There are track renovations/buildings for the Transbaltica, a new fast and direct rail line from Warsaw trough the Baltics up to Tallinn. I don't have updates for next year for now.
Maybe Flow is traveling this winter the route down from Helsinki to Warsaw?! :)
Have sunny days, Peter :)

Hi Richard!
As Peter said, the rail link between Lithuania and Poland is currently interrupted due to construction works.
Also, to get from Riga to Vilnius an overnight stay in Daugavpils is necessary; there are plans to run through passenger trains on another route that is currently freight only (Jelgava - Siauliai) but no news about a possbile opening date are known yet.
I will travel there after New Year and can then report about the current situation - however I will use buses between Riga - Vilnius - Warsaw due to time restraints.
