Hi Peter!
I'm interrailling for the first time this summer. My boyfriend and I are going to buy a 10 in 22-days-ticket and we start out in Hamburg. From there we would like to go to Barcelona (is that possible in one day/night or do we need two? what would be a nice place to stop?). In Barcelona we plan to stay for a few days and then we want to take the night train to Sevilla-Cadíz (where do we get the reservations?). We plan to travel to a few nice places in Andalucía, preferably near the coast - do you have any great suggestions? Last we want to travel from the south of Spain to Paris (should we stop in Madrid?) and from Paris we travel back home to Hamburg.
Thank you very much in advance! This homepage already helped me A LOT!

im pretty sure you cant do hamburg - barcelona with 1 day. You would have to get to Paris by 11am after leaving hamburg after 7pm and travelling on a night train.

hi Christine...

good to hear that the website helps you ... :)

so lets start ... first, always have a look on this website to find out train connections: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
and always keep in mind, that on some trains you have to pay supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
also have a look on the night trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

first from Hamburg to Barcelona... the most common route will be via Cologne, Paris - then by night train from Paris to Barcelona https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-barcelona . but it is an expensive route as you have to use the THALYS train Cologne to Paris.
a cheaper solution is from Hamburg by IC/ICE (free of supplements) to Karlsruhe (Germany), cross the border by regional train to Strasbourg (France - a nice town). from there use a night train down to the South of France (Avignion in most cases - also a nice town) (cheap French night trains https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/france/fr ). take regional trains (yes you can do this all by FREE regional trains!!) along the coast (sea view - direction of Montpellier, Perpignan, Barcelona).

if you want use the Petit Train Jaune, a small train with no roof trough the Pyrenees - really worth to do on your way to Spain (leave the main route along the coast at Perpignan. direction of Villfranche. Petit Train Jaune to La Tour de Carol. down by regional train to Barcelona. this is all FREE. no supplements).
more information: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/
of course you can do this as well on your way back to Paris, then you go downhill with this train - even more fun !! :)

about Andalucia ... mmmh... lets say with the train you have to go at the cities and then go by bus to the beaches... the fares for buses are okay. the coast is nice... but I do not have real favourites there. ;) I am more fan of beaches in Denmark ... :)

to get to Barcelona you can either use the night train (expensive - I do not have exact price details: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/barcelona-to-seville , but you can compare it to these fares.
you can do this route as well by regional trains. use the link above for the train schedules.
on your way back, make a stop in Madrid. it is worth.

from Madrid to Paris you can use the expensive night train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/madrid-to-paris or use regional trains to the French border (maybe via the Pyrenees) - and then use a train in France up to Paris.

in Spain always have a look at the type of train (you will see it at the train schedules) !! there are sometimes high supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/spain/es

I hope this will help you planing a little bit ?! :) and if you want to support the railcc project, buy your tickets at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] ... these are official InterRail tickets, send to you home by secure mail !! :)

have a nice summer, Peter :)
