Hey!

I am about to buy a 22 days continues ticket with my friend, and travel around Europe. But I am afraid that our plan is not realistic. So here we go, I share with you our dream, and please those who have done interrail trip tell us whether it is possible or not.
We live in Finland, and already bought a flight ticket from Turku to Gdansk, so our InterRail thingie would start in Poland at the 29th of May, evening.

- Poland: we do not wish to stay in Poland more than 2 nights, and the main goal is to visit Kraków and its surroundings. We can have accomodation free in Lódz or Warsaw, which is not exactly close to Kraków...
From Kraków we would like to get to Bucarest. On the map Kraków-Medyka-Lwow-Bucarest seems possible, but as it is via Ukraine we should buy extra ticket for that country, I suppose. We do not want to spend the night in Bucarest, our next stop would be
- Turkey: Istambul and Izmir, altogether not more than 2 nights in Turkey. And here is an other problem. In theory we stucked on an island between Turkey and Greece! Is the only way from Izmir to Athens the following: Izmir-Cesme-Chios-Piraeus?
- Greece:after exploring Athens we would like to spend the night in Thessaloniki. So maximum 2 nights in Greece. Then via Beograd to
- Hungary: Pécs and Budapest. 2 nights altogether.
In Slovakia and Austria we do not want to stay long, just have a look in Bratislava's and Wien's old town. Next stop would be Salzburg, Germany for 1 night.
- Italy: depending on the date when we can manage to get to Italy Venice, Milan and Rome would be our destinations. Maximun 2 nights . Via Geneva or Nice we would get somehow to Chambery, France and spend 1 night there. Next stop would be Marseille, but just to look around and sail to Barcelona, Spain. 2 nights in Spain (Barcelona, Madrid), and next stop
- Portugal: here we would like to see only Lissabon\Lisboa and if possible just to take an evening train to San Sebastian, and spend the night there. Then via Bordeux go back to France, Paris and spend 1 night in the capital. Next to Brussels and spend the night in Ghent, Belgium. From the Benelux we may would have a look on Amsterdam, but next destination would be Berlin, Germany for 1 night.. Then Copenhagen, Denmark just to cross the bridge to Sweden. In Sweden we would spend 2 nights or so, and it doesn't matter if the interrail ticket is not valid anymore, as we would take the ferry between Stockholm and Turku.

Well, it looks quite messy. And of course it's clear that not only those nights should be counted what I mentioned here. If we take an evening train, if we miss an evening train, or even if we are just on the way, that takes many hours too. So after all, I am not sure if we can make this trip in real life. For sure if we manage, it will be really tyring, and rush. To decrease the hurry we can skip Portugal, Madrid, Rome, Milano, Salzburg, Amsterdam, but we really would like to see all the other mentioned cities.

All in all Kraków, Istambul, Izmir, Athens, Thessaloniki, Pécs, Budapest, Bratislava, Venice, Chambery, Barcelona, San Sebastian, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm for sure! Is it possible in 22 days?

Thanx for your patience! =)

its probably technically possible (the reduced route) but it would be a rush. Your covering large distances and will have a max of 2 nights anywhere, which might be fine for bratislava, but paris? I wouldnt recommend it

Why you wouldn't recommened for Paris? If you are interested in the downtown and some famouse buildings, and you do not want to see all the Louvre, then isn't it 1-2 nights enough? Of course if you wish to see all the museums, then 2-3days in Paris are definitely not enough, but then I would rather have a week holiday just for Paris. The aims are to see as much as possible from different countries, and visit our friends all around Europe. But you are right, it's gonna be a rush, and may doesn't make sense to hurry like that. But if you have 22 days continues ticket the good thing is that you can just change your destination any time, and stay longer in one town if you like it, can't you? :)

if course, the great thing with the interrail ticket is its flexibility. I just wanted to make the difference between different places. There is next to nothing to do in Bratislava (although it is very pretty, has excellent beer and food, and there is tonnes of stuff thats worth seeing in slovakia) whereas I dont see much point in going to Paris for 1 day (which is realistically what it would be, even with 2 nights). Even if your not into the art, the culture, the food, the nightlife, the history... in fact even if you are not into anything paris is somewhere you need to stay for a few days to really get a feel for. After all, nothing could be worse than you coming away wondering what all the fuss was about

I'll be interrailing about whole Europe in 22 days but my question is about train connections. How much time will it take to change trains between borders(or won't we). For exp. 12hrs or more?(without paying supplement by the way) The answer for this question affects whole trip.

You don't have to change trains at borders.

Of what specific connection are you talking about?
