Hi all,

I am a bit confused about using the InterRail Youth Global Pass. My plan is to travel to Milan, Paris and Amsterdam and I live in Germany. I want to keep my order of travel as Paris, Milan and Amsterdam and then back to Germany (Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover or Oldenburg). Also, I could start my journey from ANY of the 4 cities.

The ticket I am planning to buy is InterRail Youth Global Pass, 5 Days in 10 Days.

I have a big problem in understanding the ticket limitations.

I can not start my travel from Germany using the ticket. My ticket will allow me traveling only after I enter in France. Right guys? Or can I start my travel with the ticket right from Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover or Oldenburg? If not, what would be the cost effective way for traveling so that I can use my Interrail pass at earliest in France?

Also, lets say I start my journey from 18'th of this month. So, as per my ticket, I can travel 5 days in next 10 days but it doesn't mean that it should be 5 consecutive days. Am I right? I can use the ticket in any 5 days within 10 days right? So, it is possible to say that I travel for 1 day to Paris stay there for 2 days and then travel to Milan stay there for 2 days and then finally to Amsterdam, if I keep my travel days for 5 days only. Am I right?

Also, what kinds of train are allowed to travel. I guess its only the Regional trains and NOT the Intercity and other kinds of express train service.

I would be grateful if you could clear my confusions and if you have any give some advice for the route as well.

I intend to travel on March, 2009.

Thanks a bunch!

P.S:
I already posted this on thread The rule of night-trains - counts as only ONE travel day but then I thought it doesn't make a good sense there so made a new thread.

hej hej ... :)

you are right... you can not travel for free in your country of residence... a bad rule, especially for Germans... when travelling from Northern to Southern Europe, you have to cross Germany... and you have to pay extra. :|

here are some more details about this rule:
https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

if you want to leave Germany, maybe travel to the Netherlands and from there via Belgium to France or you use a night train. book early enough and you will get a cheap seat for 19/29 EUR one-way. the same for your way back from Italy to Northern Germany:
https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de
sometimes you can als get Spar-Preis-Tickets for day trains to Paris 29/39 EUR... but you only need one to Strasbourg.

and for the trains you can use... nearly all ... except for some high-speed-trains or night trains you have to pay supplements.

for train schedules look here:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

for the supplements here:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

and for night trains:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

when using a night train with the 5 days within 10 InterRail Pass you can use the special rule for night trains: when using a night train after 1900h at night, fill in the date of the next day in your ticket and it will count as only one travel day (not valid on your first day of travel).

and you are flexible with your ticket. when buying it at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] you only chose the start date. then you can travel your 5 days whenever you want within this period. just fill in the date when you travel - on the day you travel. you do not have to do it before. :)

I hope this answer will help you. have fun, Peter :)

Do I need some others tickets as well? Well don't I have the Interrail Youth Pass to use? Why do I need to but some extra ticket?

Where can I get the list of train services that I can use for a particular country?

as of the rule of your country of residence like mentioned above... that's the reason why you need in your case a ticket to leave Germany.
sorry... I can't change it... I am not the one who is inventing such rules...
details: https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

for trains... have a look here... and you see all the trains you have to pay extra:
