Hello,

I'm planning to travel to Scotland for 7-10 days (December - January) and I have some questions to make about interrail.

First of all, do you think that it's a good idea to buy an interrail pass for Great Britain (the one with the 8 days in one month) and use it for going from London to Edinburgh and then use it for my travel around Scotland? I've read that the interrail pass covers all train companies in the U.K. so i don't have to pay something extra. I'd also like to ask if there's a way to use the IR pass around Edinburgh (tram, etc...)?

Also, In order to clarify the rules of traveling days, I'd like to ask what do we mean when we say one traveling day? 24 hours of traveling? For example, if I'm traveling from London to Edinburgh and the trip lasts 4 hours, does this mean that I have 20 hours left to use them for the next day? I'm a bit confused :|

I live in Greece, does this mean that I have to pay +50% of the IR pass for Great Britain? Also, is there any way to learn if there are any discounts on ferries in Scotland for the IR pass holders?

Thanks :)

hej hej ... :)

for the UK, the InterRail pass is really worth to buy as train travel on single tickets in the UK is extremely expensive ... maybe even the most expensive country per kilometre of rail track.

so you get a good value with your InterRail pass.

tram and so on in Edinburgh are not included, as means of transport like them are often owned by the cities or companies which do not belong the the national rail companies.

for discounts on ferries in the UK (Scotland and so on) have a look on this website: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-ferry

one travel day is from 00:01h in the morning until 23:59h at night... it doesn't matter if you travel only 10 minutes or 20 hours... one travel day is one travel day...

for night trains there is a special rule that if you jump into a night train after 19:00h in the evening, fill in your ticket the date of the next day and you can travel by night train and the full next day until 23:59h then.

I am not sure if I understood it right your last question... but when buying a SINGLE/ONE country pass for the UK you won't get any discounts in Greece or on your way to the UK. you only get free travel when using a GLOBAL ticket plus some discount in you country of residence then. for details click here: https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

all the best, Peter :)
