hello,

it is my first time using an interrail pass but i have a question. i live in romania and i need to go to berlin. i will have to take a train bucharest-budapest and another one budapest-berlin. can i use my rail pass on bucharest-budapest train or do i have to pay for the whole ticket ? because it's written somewhere that one cannot use the pass in his country of residence.

thank you

hi.

in your country of residence you can not travel for free with your InterRail pass.

here is a topic explaining why this rule exists:
https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

for Romania there is a special price ... I don't know the exact fare ... but you only have to pay from Bucharest to Curtici which is the border station to Hungary. ask at the local rail station for details (better to go to Bucharest and ask there).

maybe a cheaper solution will be to travel from Bucharest to Sofia (Bulgaria) and then via Beograd to Budapest by night train:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

have a nice tour, Peter :)

and another question:

my train leaves bucharest at 19:00 on 15-09-2008. it arrives in curtici at 06:00 on 16-09-2008. from curtici leaves at 06:30 (16-09-2008) to budapest.
so which will be my first day of traveling on the interrail pass?

I suppose the 15-09-2008 is the first day your ticket is valid ?

then you can use the rule for night trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
:(

it will count as only ONE travel day. fill in the 16-09-2008 as your first travel day.

if the first day your ticket is valid is the 16-09-2008, you can NOT use the night train leaving already on the 15-09-2008 in Bucharest. this is not possible. so the rule for the night trains is not valid in this case - but only in this case!
