Hey there.
I just got back from this years interrail trip.
Because of the trainstrike in Italy, I by coincidence ended up in Ventimiglia.
It's a bordertown to France, and not that big.
But if you are ever going from France to Italy or the other way, I would recommend getting off in Ventimiglia and spending a night or two.
There is a really nice camping ground called Camping Roma, about 10-15 mins walk from the beach. It is the cleanliest camping place I have ever been, and they water the grass so that it's nice and soft to sleep on :D
Anyway... Ventimiglia is laid back, has the greatest vegetable/fruit market and some beautiful beaches where the locals get together at night, fishing and drinking beer.
There ar also a decent amount of restaurants where you can get a menu for 8-15 euros(it seemed like a lot of French people stayed there)
Also once a year (as I understood it) they have Italy's largest market. I think it was sometime around the 10th or 12th of July.
For us it was perfect, for a few nights of relaxing away from the busy cities and trains.
Go there - and enjoy the view!
