FERRY: NETHERLANDS (Hoek van Holland) - UNITED KINGDOM (Harwich International)
By ferry from the Netherlands to the United Kingdom. An interesting alternative route beside the Eurostar train. Overnight travel is possible.

:arr: Read here the railcc blog post with detailed information and photos: https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/

With a Rail Pass you get a 30% discount at the ferries of Stena Line - http://www.stenaline.com
The purchase of a discounted ticket is only possible by phone call or directly at their office at the harbour.

More information:

Amsterdam - London by DAY ferry: https://rail.cc/train/amsterdam-to-london
Amsterdam - London by NIGHT ferry: https://rail.cc/train/amsterdam-to-london

London - Amsterdam by DAY ferry: https://rail.cc/train/london-to-amsterdam
London - Amsterdam by NIGHT ferry: https://rail.cc/train/london-to-amsterdam

In the NETHERLANDS:
Take a train from Rotterdam (Regional train - no supplements) to Hoek van Holland Haven. The train stops directly in front of the terminal.
At Rotterdam station you have direct connections by IC trains (free of supplements) to Amsterdam and Brussels.

In the UK:
You can reach Harwich International by direct train from London Liverpool Street.
Get out at Harwich International and you are directly in the ferry terminal. At the rail platform you arrive use the stairs, turn right and then enter the terminal. At the right part you will see the desk of Stenaline ferries.

Help please!!! I'm planning to take this ferry from Harwich to Hoek van holland..as the departure time of the ferry is at 9,I'll have to be at the station at about 1hour before, but that means that I have to travel from Liverpool Street at 6am more or less.. so It's not worthy to stay that night in a hostel..but what do you suggest me to do?(taking into account that I'll be alone)
by the way...How much does the eurostar London-brussels cost? does the discount exist or not in this way?
and..the last thing..In Stenaline page I found the route Harwich-Rotterdam...Is it convenient? so I shouldn't have to take the train from Hoek Van Holland to Rotterdam to take the train to Amsterdam?
thanks a lot in advance!!!

Hi.
I recommend you to use the ferry as an over-night-travel. You spent the money for a cabin in the ship instead for the hostel. But it is your calculation if it is worth or not. The ferry terminal is not open during the night - as much as I know they close it after the ferry to Hoek left it.
The Eurostar London-Brussels (then continue by free IC train) is about EUR 70 one-way:
https://rail.cc/en/london-paris-eurostar-train/f1805
https://rail.cc/en/london-brussels-bruxelles-eurostar-train/f3988
https://rail.cc/en/london-amsterdam-train/f3989
And Hoek van Holland = Rotterdam, at least, it is only some minutes by train.

THANKS A LOT PETER!!I'll take that option,as the ferry arrives late at Hoek van holland the day would be wasted and I should pay for a hostel.. so I'll take the night train,it's the most convenient way!
:) thanx!

Can this ferry be booked by just going into a train station and asking for a ticket in advance? Just checking I wouldn't have to book it online.

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Matt.
No. Ferry is ferry. Rail is rail. They have nothing to do with each other.

Thanks Peter- I now realise the information on how to book it was at the top of the page, so I apologise for wasting your time. And thanks again for all your help in the past. This forum is a great help to travellers!

not quite so-in the past they worked together very closely. You STILL can buy-but only in advance, through tickets from eastAnglia (incl Liv. Street in LON)-via this boat-to HvH and then ANY station in NL (must be mentioned which one!). Cost far less as the sum of tickets-even with a ''special'' IR discount. In fact in the past the feries were owned by some railways.
The fare on €** Lon-Brussel ONLY IF booked smartly and in advance is as low as 40/45€ or GBP-and to AN station in Nl from 49/50 of those monies. (99€ return from NL to LON very well possible-but still flying is often cheaper)

Hi!

Yes, frequent connections to Hook van Holland Haven via Rotterdam.

Amsterdam Centraal 1359 - 1502 Rotterdam Centraal
Rotterdam Centraal 1513 - 1542 Hook van Holland Haven

Amsterdam Centraal 1429 - 1532 Rotterdam Centraal
Rotterdam Centraal 1543 - 1612 Hook van Holland Haven

All trains without extra reservations - take care not to take a FYRA or THALYS train to Rotterdam! :)

Hi.
Here some examples: https://rail.cc/en/train/amsterdam-to-london
If you miss a train connection (for example the ferry is in delay), then there are a lot of train connections like Flow mentioned.
Peter :)
