no ... when booking via [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] or something like this you don't need anything. if you want to sleep in hostels of the International Hostel Federation (hihostels), then you get a discount of around 2 EUR per night. I travel always without a hicard as there are a lot other free hostels everywhere. :)
