Very often in GR the bus is the better alternative. Train network is very sparse and on branch lines not that modern.
TrainOSE is the (italian owned) national system-its site should be easy to google. In fact just ´google´ how to get from A to B will often lead to the wished for result. There is probably a timetable, but for not too long advance. Except for some advance tickets for the main Ath-Thessaloniki line train tickets are bought at counter just before train goes. Ditto for most buses.

Bus is never a better alternative than train
