On the rail.cc website it says that is it possible to go from Athens to Skopje, but in the winter months you will have to take a bus between Thessaloniki and the Greek-Macedonian border. It says that there is a departure from Thessaloniki at 18:50 and then you will arrive at Skopje at 21:55… BUT it does not say where you can buy such a ticket OR where the bus station in Thessaloniki can be found. Does anyone have any idea or experience with this route?

rail.cc is no more-its now all on this raildude.
MY advice is: do not bother with short busrides with mostly very cumbersome changes into train again midway-use in that case bus all the way. In GR nearly always all buses leave from busstations that are well organised and have ticketing. But mostly for INTernational and long distance routes, there are a multitude of sites that can give general overviews and do-for a little more-that online booking. I assume in fact the shortish sector Thess-Skop will mostly be part of a much longer busline, starting Athinai and ending perhaps in Germany or so. Some are, I think, even linked in this site-so they will give a tiny commission, but as you know-google is your best friend for that.
ALSO another free tip: do NOT make the time to change from train OSE into bus too short-GReek trains can be and very often are very, very late on arrival.
