I have a few questions about the passes, Im pretty sure im gonna get the 7 travel days with one month pass. Does that mean i have to use it within one calender month? or over 30/31 days? Ive also read that the days you travel to and from your home country dont count as travel days? I live in London so will be using Eurostar to get into europe if that helps.

Also, unrelated does anyone know if I have to make reservations in advance for every train journey and would it be best to book our hostels in advance? we arent 100% certain of which cities we are going to yet but were definatly doing paris and amsterdam.

Hi Emily!

Most Interrail passes are valid "one month". This means a period of 28 to 31 days depending on when you travel. For instance, if the first day of validity of your pass is February 10, the pass will be valid until March 9. If the first day of validity is July 31, the pass will be valid until August 30.
The travel days can be used within these periods.
You also can use one travel day for travelling from your home country to Europe and one travel to get back.
Find more basic information about Interrail here: https://rail.cc/en/first-time-interrail

I would strongly recommend making advance hostel reservations in Paris and Amsterdam - have a look at [ux]http://rail.shop/hostelworld/[/ux]
Good hostels in these cities are rare and can be fully booked when you arrive without a reservation; especially during high season and when you are travelling as a larger (3+ people) group.
