What trains do I take to get to Appenzell? Do I go through Zurich? What are the routes like?

Find all times on most of the geenral travelplanners of the railwys, even bahn.de (trom DB-Germany) works for near alkl of EUR. Its often best to use those of countries you travel in-trenitalia.it for IT and https://rail.shop/sbb foir the Swiss. Most of the faster connections will indeed send you via Zürich, but this is not needed perse. Also state if you ant fast/cheap or are interested in longer time taking but more scenic routes.

Hi!

The most simple route would be:
Rome to Milan by Frecciarossa or Italo high speed train
Milan to Zurich by Eurocity train
Zurich to Gossau or St. Gallen (depending on connection); change there to Appenzell.

Are you travelling with a railpass (Interrail, Eurail) or do you need to buy a regular ticket?
When do you want to travel?

Hi.
You can also check these websites to find train connections, schedules and ticket fares:
https://rail.shop/omio/rome/appenzell
https://rail.shop/omio/rome/appenzell
The journey time is about 9 hours.
