have been reading up on interrail for the past week or so, im ready to book up and leave SOuthampton (1.5hrs from london-£24 via train or £15 via coach to heathrow) ASAP!
Have various options, a flight to paris/belgium or Amsterdam but at the mo the flights are over £80 so if i wait a week i can fly for around £60 to amsterdam, but wondered if its possible to buy the interraill one month global pass at the amsterdam train station/airport (or paris, belgium) as i dont want to risk the ticket being delayed in the post...
BTW i was originally planning to start from prague but flights would be too expensive, gonna do a loop from paris/belgium or holland to prague, croatia, austria, switzerland, italy, france back to paris etc.. then cheap flight to southampton....
Im ready to leave NOW! dont want to hang around 7 buisness days for the ticket to arrive.
Also, what have people packed? was thinking a weeks worth of clothes - 2 t-shirts, one shirt, flip flops, trainers, jeans, shower gel/shampoo/disposable razors/ is a sleeping bag required? heard some beds in hostels have no bedding? small towel...um...
Ive been reading about travelling and theres such a wealth of possibilites and avenues to go down that it has become really overwhelming and its just easier to book and go - less time reading about it and more time DOING IT!
BTw. this forum is great ;) great advise and v.freindly.

I just went to my local trainstation and bought the global pass, took me 10 minutes :)
I'm ready to leave on monday! :P
About what to bring... I'm not sure as I haven't done this before, but I think it also depends alot on your own demands with clothes and so on...
I'm not bringing a sleeping bag, only a liner.

how much did u pay for the global pass? was it more expensive than buying it via the railcc partner links https://rail.shop/interrail ? £440 for an adult)
Whats a liner? i guess its summer now so could make do with no sleeping bag although some peole have said hostels dont have bed sheets etc...?

like the urgency to leave :)
A liner is a just that. Designed to go on the inside of a sleeping bag for extra warmth, and so you don't have to wash your sleeping bag - just the liner. But they are warm enough in the summer to use by themselves. Available from somewhere like Millets or blacks

Thanks, theres a millet in soton so will buy a back pack - 50l? dont want to carry much -my powerbook+ laptop bag weighs 4.5kg! thats heavy, but could probably manage up to 8/9kg..
will also just buy the cheapest sleeping bag going...
will be taking 2-3 t-shirts / 2 shirts (evening) long shorts, lightweight jeans / swimming trunks (look ok as normal shorts). Wearing pair of trainers, taking flip flops, small towel, toiletires (showergel, shampoo, t.paste, brush) IPOD,
Thats probably it...
oh, any tips on money? was thinkning about just getting £1000 out in euros and having that as a money belt, would be sh==t scared but saves on atm charges...

The ticket was about the same price, maybe 2€ more or so.
I'm bringing 200€ in cash, and the rest I'll be getting along the way with a visa card. I don't like carrying around too much money, but on the otehr hand I need some to pay for a hostel the first few evenings incase I can't find an ATM. And then just some for backup.
Your clothes and so sounds reasonable. My boyfriend will be bringing about the same and his backpack weighs 14 kilos including a tent.. 11 without.
Mine weighs around 10 and that is uncluding a big stack of books :P
I honestly hope I can bring down the weight even further, but it's not TOO bad... as long as I don't have to carry it all day :P
