Hello!
So the SJ website isn’t very clear but I wanted to know: if I were to book a bed in a 3 bed private compartment, do I get charged for the other two beds that are in the room not being occupied as well? A single private cabin isn’t available for reservation and I don’t want to share a sleeper cabin but when booking, I can’t tell if I’m only being charged for one bed or for the entire cabin.

Hello.

The prices are always PER bed.
In a shared sleeper cabin with three beds, you only pay for the one you use. The other two might be used by other travellers or stay free. Depends if the train is booked or not.

Here some additional information about the night train Stockholm-Abisko-Narvik: https://rail.cc/en/blog/nighttrain-stockholm-narvik
And as well our video where you see the cabin types: https://youtu.be/xMWG0H9LHh4

All in all it is one of my favourite night trains. If you have the time, you should complete the route and continue from Abisko to Narvik, the best part of it. :)
Also I recommend to include the Inlandsbanan on your way back for example. From Gällivare to Östersund. And from Östersund you continue by SJ to Stockholm. One of the best routes in Scandinavia!
