We are a family of 4 pax and 2 children of 11 and 2 years, which would be the best route to leave Venice in the afternoon or evening and arrive in Geneva at dawn the next day.
The route through the Alpez Suizos is entertaining or is very long and heavy ..? We would like to travel in cabin ... there is for 6 pax?

Hello and welcome.
The following ideas I have to include a night train... but it is not direct.
1) Venice - Dijon by Thello night train. On by train from Dijon to Geneva.
Venice departure is in the evening at around 19:20h.
Arrival in the morning at about 06:39h
That\'s nice, you could use a compartment for 3 persons (kids older than 4 have to pay). For the youngest one (2 years), he/she has to sleep with you in one of the beds. That\'s very small then. I have a baby boy as well (1 1/2) and it is not very spacey to have him with you in one of the beds. Have a look here at my blog post, there you see how beds look like in a 1-bed-sleeper , same size for 3-bed-sleepers: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/thello-paris-milan-venice/[/ux]
This ticket is available on [ux]https://rail.shop/thello[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/venice/geneva[/ux]
Then you have to buy another ticket to travel from Dijon to Geneva.
Find it at [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/dijon/geneva[/ux]
All in all expensive, especially the Thello night train. And Dijon to Geneva takes another 3 hours.
2) Venice - Trieste - Ljubljana by day train. On by night train Ljubljana to Zurich
Here you could travel by train from Venice to Trieste: [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/venice/trieste[/ux]
Cross the border by the new train connection from Trieste to Ljubljana or Jesenice. Tickets about 8 Euro. See here [ux]https://rail.shop/sz[/ux]
Problem: you have to take the early train from Trieste to Slovenia, therefore also leave Venice very early.
To get then the night train from Ljubljana/Jesenice to Zurich: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-zagreb-nighttrain/[/ux]
And then from Zurich to Geneva by another train in the morning: [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/zurich/geneva[/ux]
All in all... not the perfect timing. Long times to wait. You could include Lake Bled [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/[/ux] ... but it is not really direct the whole trip.
OTHER options:
3) By day train it is much easier and cheaper. It takes about 7 to 9 hours, depends on the connection. In the evening there is even a direct train. But it arrives later than 23:00 in Geneva. Have a look here: [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/venice/geneva[/ux]
My opinion: option (1) would be the one for me with our son if I wanted to use a night train. But it is expensive. The easiest option would be option (3).
Hope this helps!? Pete :)
