Hello and welcome.

Do you want to travel as fast as possible on the route from Rome to Amsterdam?
https://rail.cc/de/zug/rom-nach-amsterdam

As there are several routes possible.

1) Route via Paris

You first travel from ROME to MILAN by Italian high-speed-train. Tickets on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/rome/milan[/ux]

There you change to the Thello night train MILAN to PARIS. Tickets (search for a departure from 22:00h - click first class to get a private compartment) on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/milan/paris[/ux]
For the Thello night train, please read as well our blog here: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/thello-paris-milan-venice/[/ux]

In Paris you have to change station from Paris Gare de Lyon https://rail.cc/en/paris/paris-lyon-station/l284 to Paris Gare du Nord https://rail.cc/en/paris/paris-north-station/l286 . You usually do it by metro (=subway).

Continue from PARIS to AMSTERDAM by Thalys high-speed-train. Tickets available on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/paris/amsterdam[/ux] , [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/paris/amsterdam[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/nsinternational[/ux]
Read our blog here: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/thalys-amsterdam-paris/[/ux]

If you like, this trip is also possible in one ticket purchase step on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/rome/amsterdam[/ux]

2) Route via Munich

Here you avoid the change in Paris and the use of the metro where you have to carry all your luggage from one station to another.

ROME to MUNICH by direct night train. Available on [ux]https://rail.shop/nightjet/rome/munich[/ux]
Have a look therefore at our blog, including a video: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/nightjet-night-train-munich-rome/[/ux]

In MUNICH you change to a day train (calculate enough time to change and have breakfast there at the station) in direction of AMSTERDAM, usually with an easy change in FRANKFURT.
Tickets available on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn/munich-hbf/amsterdam-centraal[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/munich/amsterdam[/ux]

3) Route via Basel

Another nice route option is from Rome via Basel to Amsterdam. You can do it in one day without night train. Tickets on: [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/rome/amsterdam[/ux]

4) Route via Innsbruck

And a route as well trough the mountains is...

First from ROME to INNSBRUCK. Tickets available on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/rome/innsbruck[/ux]

There you change in the night train INNSBRUCK to DÜSSELDORF and continue to AMSTERDAM by ICE train. Tickets available (search for departure from 20:00h) on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/innsbruck/amsterdam[/ux]

Which route would I chose?

If I want to travel fast and by train, not using a plane, I would go for (3). Route (1) is usually expensive due to the heavily used Thello night train. Saver prices only if you book long time in advance. I\'m personally a fan of the Nightjet night trains which you use on route (2) and (4). Therefore I would select one of them.
Route (2) if you want to leave Rome late. You just go to the night train in te evening, but travel the full day trough Germany.
Route (4) if you want to leave Rome after hotel check-out at around noon. Go by train in direction of Innsbruck (Austria), with some nice scenic views along the route. Enter the night train in the evening. Overnight travel trough Germany. Arriving in Düsseldorf in the morning. Change there to the ICE train and you are in Amsterdam at a good time for lunch and check-in into your next hotel.

Hope this helps?! :)
And enjoy your trip.

Pete :)
