Dear All, after the Berlin marathon I would like to realize this itinerary by train. I can get fast train bookngs in 1 or 2 routes. we will leave Berln on 30th September or 1st October. we want to reach Istanbul in around 1 week. we planned the itinerary as Berlin - Prag - Vienna - Budapest - Bucarest - Istanbul. Istanbul is our home.
your suggestions for train bookings and accomodation is highly appreciated. we cannot stay at hostels or shared halls. I will check airbnb. If you have other suggestions, you are welcome.

cheesr, Fatos

Hi and welcome.
The question is to decide if you want to travel by Interrail or buy point to point tickets?! :)
If you know your exact travel dates, point to point tickets might be cheaper.
Note: ticket booking for October might not be available for most of the routes.

For hotels I recommend [ux]https://rail.shop/bookingcom[/ux]
In Berlin you have a lot of offers - but book early. As hotel prices might become expensive on such events.
I often stay in "Intercity Hotel at central station". You find photos here in this blog post at the end: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/berlin-vienna-nighjtet-train/[/ux]

Berlin-Prague:
Direct trains.
Journey time: 4:30h

Read this blog. It is about another route, but the train type is the same: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/vienna-munich-railjet-train/[/ux]

Budapest-Bucharest:
Direct night train: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/budapest-bucharest-en-473/120
Journey time: 16:00h
Tickets from: 198 Euro in double sleeper for BOTH - you have your own private compartment! :)
Book on [ux]https://rail.shop/mav[/ux] (select "Bucuresti" at destination)

Bucharest-Istanbul:
Direct night train: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/bucharest-istanbul-bosfor/134
Journey time:
Ticket 2nd class is 18,50 Euro per person. Plus reservation of 15 Euro per person for a double sleeper. To have your private double sleeper compartment, the price will be in total for BOTH: Euro 67.
Tickets are not yet available online. You can buy the already in Istanbul before you go to Berlin (or at another train station in Turkey).
Note: please read the following blog post carefully. The train runs in 2019.
"There are direct couchette and sleeping cars all year round between Sofia and Halkali. On the route between Bucharest and Halkali there will be a direct couchette car during summer from June 9 to October 7, 2019. During the remainder of the year you will have to change trains and only 2nd class seats are available."

I hope this helps... enjoy Berlin Marathon and your trip to Istanbul! :)

Hi Fatos,

it is possible to buy through tickets for Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Budapest from rail.shop/bahn, starting at 50€ per person. This would most likely be the cheapest option when choosing to buy point-to-point tickets while still allowing you to make stopovers if and where you want to.
