Does anyone have any special advice if I want to visit big cities such as Paris or Rome?
Should I bring anything special? Any precautions? When should I travel to these cities, weekdays etc

Hi.
A general reply from me: if you travel in peak season, like the summer months, the big cities are usually full of tourists.
I recommend to either stay in a smaller city outside, one hour away and only spent the day in the big city. Or to book you accommodation early in advance to get a fair price. Just check [ux]https://rail.shop/bookingcom[/ux] and [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] to get an impression about prices.
If you want to meet other travellers, stay in hostels and join their organized tours, like a pub crawl in the evening, ...
Do not buy this tourist pass like "XXX 3 days pass", ...
Usually there are cheaper offers available by local public transportation which fits more your need.
Try to walk a lot to see the cities. Walk smaller hidden roads. It\'s interesting and more real than the city centres.
Eat where locals eat. Just spot a restaurant for some minutes and you will see, if there are locals or tourists only. For Rome I can give you the address of a pizza restaurant close to the Termini station. Nice, cheap, good, locals. :)
Always include these breaks. Get some water and sit down in a park for an hour. Relax. It\'s your holidays. Don\'t run trough the whole city in one day.
These are some of my personal experiences from interrailing the past 20 years. :)
