quick question... i have just purchased a backpack that is 55L + 10L but i don't understand what the +10 litre means?
the guy in the shop said its because of the botoom compartment but EVERY backpack has a bottom compartment!!?
i am tottally baffled as to what the +10 litres is? why not just call it 65L?
thank you

a very good question. It depends on the manufacturer, some will tell you it is all the side pockets, some the extention that the hood can have at the top. Tbh, its a bit useless comparing manufacturers quoteted literage, because there is no standard way of measuring the size of a backpack, and all the manufacturers do it differently.
Its all very confusing, but as long as your bag is big enough to take all the essential, not so big that you start taking crap, is comfortable and fits, itll be fine

the one I bought is 60+10... the 10 is just pockets on the side of the bag, not sure I'll fill them though :)

generally, the +5, +10 etc indicates how much more space you can create by loosening all the straps. Most (big) backpacks have straps on the sides that you can pull to reduce the bulkiness of your backpack.
So 55L is the size if 'compressed' and 65L is the optimum space.
