Hi,
I am hoping to travel to Istanbul by train from Sofia and was wondering at what point I buy the visa. Is it at the border into Turkey or at the station in Istanbul.
My other qeustion is how does the interrail pass actually work, do you just jump on a train and show the pass to the guy who checks your ticket or do you need to go the the ticket desk at each station and show them it there.

Any help would be much appreciated

Chris

You buy the Visa at the border (at about 4 in the morning) You can pay in Euros or Pounds (or other currencies probably)

Most trains you can just jump on, if you want to have a couchette/sleeper (recommended for this train) you need to go to the ticket office and pay a supplement or reservation.

I traveled in a 3 person sleeper for a supplement of about €15 I think, which was very comfortable. The train is often late, so be prepared for a long wait at Sofia station

To be on the safe side always enquire with an embassy / a consulate in your home country. This may save you from much inconvience during your journey.
