Hello everyone! I will start my adventure on August 3rd!
I decided to go all alone, because I think it\'s the best way to face a trip like this, and because if I\'d stayed there waiting for my friends to make a decision, I would have never left ahahah
So I live in Italy, and I got the base global pass (15 days, 5 departures) and my itinerary plan is:
-Start from Wien
-munich
-copenaghen
-oslo
-bergen
-back to Oslo to take the plane to London
-plane back to Italy

I have to confess I\'m a bit scared, but also very excited! My main goal is photography, so I\'m also going to look for nice landscapes to shoot

My concerns are basically missing something, since I\'ve never traveled much, never did an interrail, and most of all, never been alone
I plan on staying in hostels, and trying to eat as cheap as I can: I already bought all the tickets, plane and train, and I have about 700€ left, wich I hope will be enough (Norway scares me!)

That\'s basically it, I don\'t know what I\'m going to do apart taking the panoramic train between Oslo and Bergen

Please tell me ANY suggestion or advice that comes to your mind, it will be really really appreciated! Many thanks, Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo and welcome to rail.cc

Yes, Norway is not that cheap... just came back from the Bergen-Oslo route and stayed there by Airbnb which was in my eyes still "cheap" from Norway. Check it out here where you also get some Euros bonus: [ux]https://rail.shop/airbnb[/ux]
All in all, you will save money staying in hostels, where you will meet other travellers as well - nice if you travel alone. Have a look here to find prices: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

Now to your route...

Vienna-Munich: by free and direct Railjet

Munich-Copenhagen: a longer trip. If you leave early in Munich, travel for free to Hamburg. From Hamburg you need a reservation in summer for the direct EC to Copenhagen. A nice trip, as the EC train goes on a ferry (included). Read the blog of Wouter for all details: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/hamburg-copenhagen-train/[/ux]
The reservation is available here: [ux]https://rail.shop/dsb/reservation/[/ux] and I recommend to buy it some days in advance as the train is often full.

Copenhagen-Oslo: first by Öresundståg from Copenhagen to Göteborg. There you change to the train to Oslo. Both trains do not need a reservation with Interrail and are free. Check schedules here: [ux]https://plan.rail.cc[/ux]

Oslo-Bergen: a reservation is not required, but I STRONGLY recommend it in the Regiontog: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/regiontog-nsb/38
Seats are not marked as reserved and it is just annoying always to change places, especially if you want to take photos. Buy the reservation online and get it as email to print out via ACPRail: [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]

Maybe think about the Flåmsbana: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/the-flam-railway/[/ux]
Just as thought... by night train from Oslo to Myrdal (not that long, but you save the money for a hostel). Exit a Myrdal. Wait until the bike rental opens (08:30). Rent a bike for NOK 350 and go down to Flåm by bike. I did it in June and really liked it. And in the afternoon go up from Flåm to Myrdal by Flåmsbana.
The bike I rented was a good mountain bike: [ux]http://caferallaren.no/en/booking[/ux]
For the Flåmsbana you have to buy a reservation which is available in Flåm at the info office there (easy to get): https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/flamsbana/227

There are other options available going by ship from Flåm to Gudvangen and then by bus to Voss from where you continue to Bergen.

Thoughts for you to play around and we can find the best route for you.

I have all this information in pipe here with photos but need some more days to finish the blogs... :|

Finally... if you like the content on rail.cc , support us and buy your Interrail pass at no extra costs via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you! :)

Ah... and if you like to travel scenic routes in Scandinavia and get cool photos, Inlandsbanan in Sweden is also a nice choice! :)

Pete :)

Hi Pete! You are a guardian angel! I already bought the ticket via this website, I\'m happy to do that if it can help you
I\'m really considering that flamsbana idea
So what youd did was: rent the bike at Mydral, go down to Flam on it and then got the Flamsbana back to Mydral to get the train to Bergen?
If that\'s so, it sound great! But I have a few questions about that:

-For the Oslo-Bergen I wanted to get this train
https://www.interrail.eu/it/pianifica-il-viaggio/treni-leuropa/itinerari-ferroviari-panoramici/ferrovia-di-bergen

but I can\'t understand if that\'s a special train or any train from Oslo to Bergen is like that

- WHen I get the bike at Mydral, how long does it take to get to flam and then back up? Because the train gets in Mydral at around 13 ( I think ), and I need to catch it again in the evening to get to Bergen

- When i get to flam, can I leave the bike there somewhere or do I have to carry it with me on the flamsbana? I saw that the price for the way up is quite high (550NOK), plus the bike... maybe it\'s costing me too much

Hi.

Thank you for supporting. Important is, that you directly clicked our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] before you buy - so we got tracked and they know you come from us. Thank you! :)

Yes, the route Oslo to Bergen is served by normal trains. It is not a special train. It is this type of train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/regiontog-nsb/38 . You can use it for free with Interrail, but I strongly recommend to buy the reservation, as the train is usually very full! Buy it at a station in Europe or via ACPRail online: [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]
If you want to save money, I recommend to use the night train from Oslo to Myrdal: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/oslo-bergen-rt-605/102 and reserve a normal seat.
By day train Oslo to Myrdal you arrive at 11:37 or 12:58 at Myrdal.
Going down by bike (NOK 350) takes about two hours (can also be done in one hour, but stop by to take photos of the Flåmsbana), but I would do it the relaxed way as it is very scenic.
Flåmsbana is about NOK 250 (or 270 now) https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/flamsbana/227 to go back to Myrdal.
For example departure at Flam at 16:05. Arrival Myrdal at 17:03.
There you change to the LOCAL and free train (always seats available) to Bergen. Myrdal departure 17:13 , arrival Bergen at 19:55.
Of course you could do it as well the reverse way from Bergen to Myrdal and Flam. Back to Myrdal by Flåmsbana and by night train to Oslo.

Best part of the route Oslo-Bergen is from Geilo via Myrdal to Voss. Sit on the left in direction of Bergen.

Pete :)

Hi! I\'m halfway trough my trip and I have a few questions

I was thinking about sleeping on the train from Bergen to Oslo to get in town early and to save some money, does that train have a sort of bed or do I have to sleep seated?

Also, the train station here in Cophenagen has its system out of service, so I cannot make a reservation here for the trains towards Oslo, is there any way to do it online?

Thank you so much, your suggestions are saving me!

Hi.
Copenhagen via Göteborg to Oslo is free with Interrail. No reservation required.
For schedules check [ux]http://plan.rail.cc[/ux]

Example...
Koebenhavn H dep 08:27 - by Öresundståg https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/oresundstag/70
Göteborg Central arr 12:05

Göteborg Central dep 13:00 - by Regiontog https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/regiontog-nsb/38
Oslo S arr 16:52

For the night train Bergen to Oslo https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/oslo-bergen-rt-605/102 a reservation is strongly recommended as usually full. Either buy it in Copenhagen, Göteborg or Oslo at a ticket window in the station or online in advance: [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]
Reservation fees see at the link to the night train above. Either seat (~ Euro 6) or sleeper cabin (~ Euro 100).
