Hey! We\'re leaving tomorrow from Athens to Thessaloniki, and we found the timetable for the route that\'s free of reservations. Is the timetable still valid?

Hi Milla, welcome to railcc!

According to several reports, you can now also use the Intercity (IC) trains between Athens and Thessaloniki without having to pay an expensive supplement! :)
You simply need a seat reservation which is free of charge.

I would recommend to ask locally at the station in Athens for a free seat reservation.
In case that you want to travel with the connection without reservations this is the current schedule:
Athens 08:20 - 12:22 Palaeofarsalos
Palaeofarsalos 12:32 - 14:28 Thessaloniki

Please let us know which connectoin you took and how the travel was like. Would be interesting for other travellers. :)

Hey! We went to Palaeofarsalos free of reservations, but unfortunately our train was late so we didn\'t make it to the next train leaving to Thessaloniki at 12:32. But we found out that another train will leave in about two hours so we just spent some time playing cards at the station cafe.
When the train arrived, we were surprised to hear that we need seat reservations, but were able to run at the information desk to get our seat tickets (which were free) and get to the train.
So, I don\'t know if the first train to Thessaloniki needed seat reservations or not, but it\'s free so it doesn\'t really matter :).

Also, just a heads up to other travellers: at least for now the platform 4 is not working, but at the platform there is a sign that says "to Thessaloniki". Our train left from platform 3, that read "to Athens". So don\'t get scared by that!

That\'s good to hear that reservations are finally free in Greece - cool! :)

The train you travelled with from Palaeofarsalos was an Intercity (IC), coming from Athens. These require a seat reservation but it is good to hear that it is now really free of charge (it used to be about 20€ for the whole journey from Athens to Thessaloniki. :)
