We're going interrailing i Switzerland from the 15th - 25th of July, on a 10 days with 5 days of travel.. i have a problem finding the right connection from copenhagen to geneve, (and back again)... do we take a night train? or what? i'm a little bit confused, also with the suppliments, is it possible to travel only on our ticket? So, what I'm asking is: Which train to take and how to reserve seats?

Hi,

You can take a night train from Kopenhagen to Basel (SBB). From there you can catch a domestic train to Geneva (about 2,5hours i think).

The night train (City Night Line) is operated by Deutsche Bahn. More information:

About whether or not you can travel on your ticket - that depends on whether you bought an interrail ticket for just switzerland or a global pass. In case of the latter, I believe you don't get any discount on the fare to Basel. I'm not sure about the cost, but I believe CNL tickets are quite pricy if bought separately.

You might consider getting a global pass or flying to Geneva.

Cheers,

AO

i have just checked [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] and found a train leaving from copenhagen 7.42 and it arrives in basel 19.00.. but we cannot make a seat reservation, we can only by a ticket.. but we don't need a ticket, do we? cause we have our interrail passes.. i'm confused :|

One more thing, maybe a stupid question, but it can be done in 1 travelday, right?

Hi,

For the day train you don't need a reservation, and no, you don't need a ticket ;)
You can get to Geneva in one travelday, yes. If you take the night train, make sure it leaves after 7pm so it counts with the next day of travel.

Have fun!

Notice, however, that your first day of travel always counts as a travel day, even if you depart after 19:00. You cant take a train from Copenhagen at 20:00, arrive in Switzerland the next day, and make it count as one travel day only. You can do it on the way back, though.

There's a night train leaving Copenhagen at 18:37, arriving in Basel next morning, should be your best option. If you're traveling in Switzerland only, though, you might want to compare the price of the pass to the price of a Switzerland-only pass and some cheap plane tickets.

nothing more to add... :)

only here the link for the night-train information: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de

at the moment you can not make a reservation online via internet when you only need a reservation as it is the case for InterRailers. you either have to do it by phone or to buy it at a station.
:)
