Hello,

I have an Interrail Global pass valid for the month of August. Leaving preferrably in the morning of the 8th of August, I would like to get to Athens as fast as possible. From what I\'ve seen, my best option is:

bus dubrovnik - bar 17 euros
bar - belgrade by train, for which I don\'t know if I have to make reservations
belgrade - thessaloniki by train, for which I apparently don1t need to make reservations (any informations welcome)
thessaloniki - atenas by train, for which I apparently need to make reservations, and I can\'t seem to do it online (any informations welcome)

As you can see, this is a great detour and from what I\'ve read, leaving in the morning of the 8th, I could get to Athens by the 10th. I would like to if there is another faster way to do it, even if it involves more bus trips, as long as it\'s not much more expensive. Trying to plan a trip using my pass in these countries has been rather frustrating and I could really use some help.

Cheers,
Joao Pedro

Hi Joao Pedro, welcome to railcc!

Your described route is the best option by train.
August 8: Bus Durbrovnik - Bar, then night train Bar - Belgrade
August 9; spend the day in Belgrade, then night train Belgrade - Thessaloniki
August 10; arrival in Thessaloniki and continue to Athens

Reservation is strongly recommended for Bar - Belgrade (I recommend a couchette or sleeper); you can contact ZPCG (Railways of Montenegro) via mail at [ux]https://rail.shop/zpcg/[/ux] to make a reservation; collect and pay locally at Bar station.
Reservation is also recommended (and required for a bed in a couchette) for Belgrade - Thessaloniki; contact SV (Serbian Railways) via mail or phone [ux]https://rail.shop/sv/[/ux]
Please note that Belgrade station is closed; the night train from Bar will terminate at Topcider (transfer to centre by tramway); while the night train to Thessaloniki will depart from Belgrad Centar/Prokop (south of the city centre). Also, there is a replacement bus service on between Gevgelija and Thessaloniki: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/belgrade-skopje-thessaloniki-train/[/ux]
