Hi All,

I Just need some advice as I cannot make up my mind! I intend to travel from Istanbul to London via train, with stops being Bucharest, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Berlin, Paris and then the eurostar or flight to London.

Which would work out cheaper, point to point tickets or a interrail pass? If I purchase the interrail pass it will most likely be the 7 travel days within one month pass.

Many thanks in anticipation of your suggestions.

Kind Regards,

Pud.

Hi Pud, welcome to railcc,

sorry for taking so long for answering your questions.

Istanbul - Bucharest: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/bucharest-sofia-istanbul-train/[/ux]
Bucharest - Budapest: Best by direct night train Ister or Dacia: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/night-train/bucharest-vienna-en-346/49[/ux] [ux]https://rail.cc/en/night-train/bucharest-budapest-en-472/121[/ux] Problem: no option to book cheap Fortuna or Trip tickets online: [ux]https://www1.cfrcalatori.ro/cu-trenul-in-ungaria/[/ux] - this means you would have to organise these ticket somehow - contact CFR Calatori directly to see if there is the possibility of ordering these tickets via phone/mail and collect them locally.
Budapest - Wien: Fortuna (advance fare) tickets available from 13€ at [ux]http://rail.shop/mav[/ux]
Wien - Salzburg: order at [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] both operators ÖBB and Westbahn have cheap advance fare offers from about 14€
Salzburg - Berlin: "Sparpreis" (advance) fare tickets available from German Railways at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
Berlin - Paris: Either by once weekly Russian night train (quite the experience...): [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/berlin-paris-night-train/[/ux] or during the day by high speed trains; book at [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux]
Paris - London: with Eurostar, obviously. :)

You need to check prices for each leg individually and make a calculation to compare with Interrail.

With Interrail, you would need reservations for the night trains: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train[/ux]
For day trains, no reservation needed for Budapest - Wien - Salzburg - Berlin; from Berlin you can travel by ICE (high speed train) without a reservation to Cologne and continue by Thalys: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/thalys-paris-cologne/[/ux] or go to Frankfurt and take a ICE or TGV "Alleo" service to Paris: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/tgv-alleo/172[/ux]
Eurostar reservations: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/eurostar/78[/ux]
