As we live in Australia , can we purchase the interrail ticket when we arrive in Europe/Russia as it appears to have more countries to travel through rather than the Eurail ticket?

Hello cujimmy and welcome to rail.cc

Interrail https://rail.cc/en/interrail is only for European citizens.
As non-European citizen you have to buy the Eurail pass https://rail.cc/en/eurail

What is the route you plan to travel ?

Pete :)

Oh. That\'s a really cool trip...! :)
From Moscow you probably continue to St.Peterburg. From there you have the direct trains to Helsinki: https://rail.cc/en/train-type/allegro-vr/174

If you do not know the exact arrival date in Finland, but want to continue your travels in Europe by an Eurail pass https://rail.cc/en/eurail you have the following three options:
(1) buy your Eurail pass in advance online at [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] . It must be activated within 11 months of the issuing date. Activation is possible at Helsinki main station https://rail.cc/en/helsinki/helsinki-central-railway-station-/l60. Just go to a ticket window, the staff will enter the start and end date and stamp it. Very easy. With the 11 months after purchase, you have enough time to cross Russia. But maybe you do not want to carry the expensive pass with you all the time during your travels. Then you have the following two options.
(2) buy your Eurail pass as soon as you are in St.Petersburg and know your hotel in Helsinki. Order online at [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] and get it shipped to your Hotel in Helsinki (or order if you stay already in Helsinki - shipping time is 3-5 days). Then get it activated at Helsinki main station like explained above, or the online shop also offer automated activation.
(3) buy it in Helsinki main station. It might be more expensive.

I personally would go for option (2).

Enjoy your trip and if you have further questions, just let us know. :)
