We are thinking about taking the ferry from Durrës in Albany to Bari, and want to spend some days in Italy before flying out from Naples. Is southern Italy good for interrailing? Are many train/bus connections included in the pass? Or would you not use travel days, and just buy the transportation?
Would you recommend staying in the Puglia area (Bari, Polignano a Mare etc.), either spending nights in different towns or day tripping from for example Bari to the other towns, or going to Naples straight away? And then take day trips to for example Capri/Positano/Sorrento/the Amalfi coast?
How many days do you think is needed?

Thank you in advance!

Interrail is only valid on Trenitalia services; this means it isnt valid south of Bari/Taranto/Lecce on the FSE (Ferrovie Sud Est) network (basically all lines except the Bari to Taranto and Bari to Lecce main lines).
Also, Interrail is not valid on the FAL network (Ferrovie Appulo–Lucane), from Bari to Matera and Potenza, nor on local buses.

Anyway, tickets for local trains and buses are not expensive in Italy so you could well plan to spend a few days in the area. Bari, Polignano and Lecce can be visited with Trenitalia trains (Interrail valid) anyway. ;)

Similar situation around Napoli - the narrow gauge network to Sorrent is not included in Interrail but tickets are cheap.

As mentioned in my other answer, 15 days for your whole overall trip might be too few to visit all the places on your list so you may have to rearrange the trip or cut some of the places.
