Hi! I am going on interrail this summer with some friends, and I've heard a rumour that's saying you have to join this organisation of hostels before you leave, and if you don't, you won't get to rent any beds at the hostels. Anyone out there who are able to help me? Anyone know a place where I can join this/one of these organisations, or know for a fact that the rumour isn't true? Any help will be highly appreciated:)
Thank you so much for the tips, I think I've got all the information I need now:)

hi ...
I think you are talking about the official hostel organization called IYHF (www.hihostels.com - International Youth Hostel Federation) or as well HIhostels (HI=Hostelling International).
this federation is nice and yes you can buy a member card... so you save in average 3 EUR per night. but most of the backpackers use private hostels for which you don't need a member card... just have a look for example at [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] ... there you will find a lot of them!!! :)

It depends very much on the country you're travelling in. For instance, her in Denmark, a very large majority of the hostels are HI-members, and a card will be of good value, if not a downright necessity.
On the other hand, during a month in Italy, Greece, Turkey and Austria, we never got to use our HI card a single time...have a look at the HI-website and see how widespread HI-hostels are in the countries you plan to visit.
