Hi,
we plan to travel from OSlo to Tromso close to Christmas. We were told there were no trains to Tromso from Oslo and to instead take the train to Narvik. How long does the travel time take from Oslo to Narvik and what is the best railway to use for the journey.

Hi and welcome to railcc!
From Narvik the Iron Ore Line runs to Sweden: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/the-iron-ore-line-from-lulea-to-narvik/[/ux]
You can take the night train from Narvik to Stockholm: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/night-train/stockholm-narvik-nt-10094/389[/ux]
Then travel from Stockholm to Oslo by day train, book tickets at [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/sj/[/ux]
Alternatively you can travel from Narvik to Fauske by bus: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/bodo-fauske-narvik-bus/[/ux]
Then take the day or night train to Trondheim and change in Trondheim to the night or day train to Oslo. Book tickets at [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/nsb/[/ux]
If you have more questions just ask. :)

I am ultimately going to North Cape, I am on a bicycle and Sweden doesn\'t appear to allow that baggage, how does one get to Narvik from Oslo? I planned on bus to from Narvik to North Cape, that seems to exist. Any help appreciated, thanks

Hi and welcome to railcc!
You can travel by train within Norway from Oslo via Trondheim to Fauske and Bodo. One part (either Oslo to Trondheim or Trondheim to Fauske/Bodo can be done by night train).
From Fauske you have to continue north to Narvik by bus: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/bodo-fauske-narvik-bus/[/ux]
It is possible to travel with a bicycle on the trains in Norway; and should be no problem to take the bike (disassembled if necessary) on the buses too.
Going via Sweden will be much more complicated since taking bikes on Swedish trains is usually not possible (only disassembled as piece of luggage).
