It is possible to take luggage with dimensions of 50x45x25 cm and weight 17 kg in the cabin of the DB IC BUS (Heidelberg to Prague) ? This is a tape recorder and I do not want to place it into the luggage area because of potential device damage?

I am afraid to place it down to the luggage area because of potential device damage between other luggages, due more vibration on the bottom of the bus etc.

Thank You Petr

Hi Petr!

The regulations of DB say that each passenger can bring up to two pieces of item measuring 70x50x30cm max. No weight limitation mentioned. Also it says that there is no guarantee that passengers can bring their luggage in the passenger compartment.
So I guess that it will depend on how many people there are on the bus - if you talk to the bus driver explaining that you are carrying expensive equipment I guess that it shouldnt be a problem to take the tape recorder with you..but I cant guarantee it.

Hi Flo :-)

thank You. It means - it depend of driver of the bus and situation. Yes, I am understanding.
I saw some photos, but I am not so sure - how large is place under the seat ? When the device lay on it´s back, it is 50 x 45 cm and 25 cm of height.

Thanks Petr

Hi Flo :-)

And one important question more: the bus normally arrive without bigger delay ? Because I would like to go 7:10 from Prague, 13:57 be in Heidelberg. Then pick up the device in the town about 20 km from Heidelberg (via taxi) and catch the bus back to Prague 15:33.

Is it dangerous ? Because some bigger delay would lead to crash the plan.

Thanks Petr

Hi Petr.
When I used the IC bus on the line from Mannheim/Heidelberg to Prague, it was always more or less in time. Sometimes even faster. But not more delay than 15 minutes. Therefore: you can never preview it - but I would say, at least 90% absolutely in time.
Concerning your luggage: like Flow said - ask the bus driver, if there are free seats in the bus to place your luggage. If you avoid Friday and Sunday as travel days, you may have more luck. The luggage is put in the back of the bus. The driver is beside the luggage storage all the time and fix labels on each luggage. There is only one stop in Nuremberg - if you get out of the bus there to stay beside the luggage storage, you can easily control it. To conclude: even using the "standard" luggage storage of the bus, your luggage is much saver than in a standard long-distance bus.
I hope I could help you - I\'m on this bus on Friday 10 March from Prague to Heidelberg/Mannheim. :)

Hi Pete :-)

thank You very much.
I will see, what can be possible. Unfortunatelly I am sick now and I must wait to be healthy for this long journey (14 hours in the bus in one day).

BTW: what You mean "I\'m on this bus on Friday 10 March from Prague to Heidelberg/Mannheim" ? You are on the holiday in Prague ?
Or You work as bus driver (it was not so clear from Your post :-)

Regards Petr

Hi.
Back from my trip on the IC Bus from Prague to Heidelberg and Mannheim. I wrote a blog post, where I posted some photos concerning luggage: https://rail.cc/blog/ic-bus-bahn-prague/
It was absolutely save in my eyes. If you get out at Nuremberg bus station to have an eye on your luggage, nothing at all will happen to it (also if you stay in the bus in Nuremberg). There was always the bus driver opening the door to the luggage "room" - he stayed inside. And closed it by himself when everything was done.
Pete :)
