I will be traveling this upcoming May using a Eurail Global Pass. I am wondering if the night train (VENICE-MUNICH
EURONIGHT 40236 ÖBB NIGHTJET) is direct and also how to make a reservation for this train.

Hi!

Yes, the night train is direct; you find the schedule and reservation prices here: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-night-train/venice-munich-en-40236-nightjet/36

Online reservations are available via the Trenitalia website as explained in the link above.
Alternatively you can also book the reservation from DB (German Railways): Go to [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] and search for the night train on your travel date. "Check availability" and enter passenger data (number and age). Now "check availability again" and you will see a list of available fares. On the bottom click on "book supplement only" and select " pass offer". Now you can select the class of accomodation and continue with booking. Reservations are available as e-tickets.

Support our work and book your Eurail pass through our partner link with eurail.com: [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] - thank you!
Do you already know about the spring promotion? Book your Eurail pass in February or March and get a number of extra travel days (number depends on type of pass).

Thank you for your reply! I could not find the train on the the Eurail Reservation Service. Is it generally better to avoid making reservations through that service and just to do it using other means such as the ones you listed, even for other trains as well?

Well...personally I would prefer to use other services where available, since you have to pay an extra service charge when using the reservation service. However it depends of course on your exact route etc - if it is necessary to book in advance using the reservation service or using other options to get the reservations or simply buy a reservation at short notice at a train station in Europe. :)

On the page about the Venice -> Munich Night train, under the trenitalia reservation information, it says "enter Interrail pass info". Will this not work since I have a Eurail Pass?

It works for Eurail as well - select the Global pass tariff at the Trenitalia site and then fill in your Eurail pass number (printed at the bottom of the Eurail ticket). I have also used "00000000" as a pass number and nobody did care.

Thank you! Also what is the ticket number? I am having a hard time finding this on the ticket, as it does not seem clearly pointed out on the ticket.

There should be a number highlighted in orange on the bottom/bottom-left of the ticket. This is the pass number, which will then also be printed on the reservation. However, as I wrote before, this number has never been checked on my Trenitalia reservations; also on my reservations only the first seven digits are shown (but my Interrail pass numbers have more digits).

You can also get the reservation at [ux]http://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] as I described above. :)

Thank you again, and I have tried through Bahn, but to no avail. I keep seeing "reservation impossible." Even when I change the dates to a few weeks away (well within the 3-month booking period), I still see that reservation is impossible for the direct overnight train from Venice to Munich.

OK - for what date have you been looking? I can check later. :)

I have been looking for May 21st (which is outside the booking period). But I was surprised that even when I used a date within the booking period, it still said "impossible to reserve."

OK, so what did you do?
1) Go to [ux]http://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
2) Enter "VENEZIA" and "München Hbf" as departure/arrival station on the lets say 22th February. Set the departure time to 19:00. Click on "Search".
3) The first result should be the direct night train, "EN", departing at 21:04. Click "Check availability".
4) Enter your age, "Refresh" and "Check availability" again.
5) Now a list of different prices should appear. Click on "Book supplement only".
6) Check "Pass offer". "Continue".
7) Now you should be able to choose your comfort category. Seat, couchette or sleeper ("deluxe" or "economy" are both available for 2nd class ticket holders although "deluxe" is shown to be 1st class). Check your comfort category and "Book selected offer"
8) Continue with booking.

I still cannot book. It says reservation impossible. I have uploaded a picture at this link: http://tinypic.com/r/vpyef8/9 . The picture shows what I see when I hit "reservation only."

Hi.

Buy your reservation online on the website of Austrian railways ÖBB https://rail.shop/oebb . First select your connection from the start to the destination. Then click on the link for "Single Tickets and Day Tickets". Here you add under "Who is going" and "Add discount" the option "Interrail / Eurail - Globalpass". Then you will see the Interrail reservation costs as ticket price.

All ÖBB nightjet night trains here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/nightjet/320

Pete :)
